Babusar Pass

Activities

Babusar Pass is a high mountain pass located at the northern end of the Kaghan Valley, connecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Gilgit-Baltistan. Sitting at an elevation of over 4,100 meters, the pass marks the transition from the green valleys of Kaghan to the open highlands beyond. It is one of the highest drivable points accessible from Naran during the summer season.

The pass is primarily experienced as part of a road journey rather than a destination for extended stays. Most travelers visit Babusar Pass briefly, drawn by its altitude, strong winds, and wide, unobstructed views. Weather conditions can change rapidly, and the area remains exposed with little natural shelter.

What to See

The defining feature of Babusar Pass is its vast openness. Unlike valleys or lakes, the pass offers long sightlines across rolling highland terrain, distant peaks, and a broad mountain horizon. On clear days, visibility stretches far beyond the immediate surroundings, giving a sense of scale and isolation.

What visitors typically see and do at Babusar Pass includes:

  • Standing at the highest accessible point, taking in the panoramic views

  • Short walks near the roadside, feeling the altitude and cold air

  • Photography focused on wide landscapes, cloud formations, and distant ridgelines

  • Brief stops to rest and acclimatize, especially after long drives

  • Observing rapid weather changes, where sunshine can turn into fog within minutes

Babusar Pass is not a place for long activity. Its appeal lies in the experience of height, wind, and space rather than movement or exploration.
