Lulusar Lake

Activities

Lulusar Lake is a high-altitude lake located in the upper Kaghan Valley, along the road that leads from Naran toward Babusar Pass. Unlike enclosed alpine lakes, Lulusar sits in an open landscape, surrounded by rolling slopes and wide skies. The lake is known for its cold winds, quiet atmosphere, and long stretches of open ground rather than dramatic cliffs.

Geographically, Lulusar Lake holds importance as the source of the Kunhar River, which flows through Naran, Kaghan, and Balakot. Most travelers visit Lulusar as a short stop while traveling deeper into upper Kaghan, making it a pause point that offers space, silence, and scale rather than activity-heavy sightseeing.

Enchanting Lulusar Lake

The main experience at Lulusar comes from its openness and isolation. The lake’s surface often reflects shifting clouds rather than sharp mountain peaks, giving it a moody, spacious feel. Weather changes quickly, and the lake can appear calm one moment and windswept the next.

Things visitors commonly do at Lulusar Lake include:

  • Quiet walking along the lakeside, taking in the vast surroundings

  • Photography focused on sky, water, and light, especially when clouds move low

  • Short roadside stops to rest during the Naran–Babusar journey

  • Sitting near the source area of the Kunhar River, observing how the river begins its course

Lulusar is not a picnic-heavy or long-stay spot. Its appeal lies in stillness, cold air, and the feeling of being far from settlements. Due to its elevation and exposed terrain, wildlife sightings at Lulusar Lake are rare. The surrounding area supports alpine birds and limited cold-water aquatic life. Visitors should treat the lake as a fragile environment rather than a wildlife viewing site.
